POSITION IMPROVED.

CASES OF DIPHTHERIA

The medical officer of health, Dr. T. J. Hughes, said this morning that the position in regard to cases of diphtheria in Auckland had improved. Following the recent outbreak in the Birkenhead district 700 swabs had been taken and "carriers" had been isolated until free of infection. Xo further cases had been reported from Birkenhead since July 13. During the month occasional cases had been reported from various city and suburban areas.
