CORONATION BALL.

GOOD SHEPHERD SCHOOL. In Scots Hall 011 Thursday evening, the queen carnival of the Good Shepherd School, Balmoral, was brought to a close by a grand coronation ceremony and children's fancy dress ball. Princess Gabriellc was crowned Queen of Balmoral amidst all the pomp and beauty of a royal court. The exquisite taste and colouring of the frocks, find the grace of the children taking part in the coronation ceremony made a wonderful scene. The golden-froeked queen with her retinue, and Princesses Betty, Pamela and Lorna, with their dainty attendants, as well as scarlet-coated pages and charming little llower girls, all made a procession which will long be remembered. The Lord Chancellor (Jim Peck) carried out his duties in a Cleveland finished manner.

The hall presented an animated scene when the school children took their places on the floor for dancing. The infants delighted all present with their beautiful and dainty little items. The elder children took part in group dances, which included the Lancers, the Swiss Dance, Italian Peasant. Mr. R. H. Duggan, in a brief speech, congratulated those responsible for the artistic training of the young dancers. Refreshments were served for the children at the eonelusion of the programme. Prizes were presented by Rev. Father O'Reilly, Miss Daphne Knight being the judge. The results were: — Senior section: Best dressed girl (in costume), Freda Ilaydon, as a Victorian lady; best dressed girl, Noreen Peck, froeked in palest green; most original girl, Nellie Breen, as Night; most original boy. Brian Hayne, as a grandfather clock. Junior section: Most original boy, Vernon Cooper as starch; most original girl, Dallys Draffin as Station IYA; best dressed girl, Mary Crumbley, erinolino girl; best dressed boy, Raymond Green, New Zealand officer. Special prizes: Gloria Grattan, vegetable garden; Jean Johnstone, Christmas tree; Josie Hootan and Connie Dyer, flower girls. Prizes were also awarded for the best sets in the various groiip dances.
