CRIPPLED CHILDREN.
CHIEF NEEDS OUTLINED
MEDICAL EXAMINATION WORK
The principal needs of crippled children concerned education, vocational training and the placing in employment, stated the report on the clinical examination of 154 crippled children, which report was presenter. Ijy the medical sub-committee at the last executive meeting of the Auckland branch of the Xew Zealand Crippled Children's Society. The examination was carried out at the Seddon Memorial Technical College by Dr. K. S. Macky in the past month.
While the principal needs were as stated, the report said that the food, clothing and medical treatment required supervision, and the report recommended that the branch sliou'-l follow the lines of the New Zealand Institute for the Blind. Information conce/irng eripp'cs ill the country is to bo sought by the general committee from schools, from the Health Department, and from the Rotary Club, while also applications are to be sought from parents wlio-a circumstances were suc;i that their children could be adequately prepared fcr a life's work only through admission to the Wilson Home in Takapuna. Personnel of Branch Membership. As part of the organisation of the branch, it was decided to invite a'l local bodies in. the province who had contributed to the annual revenue of the branch to nominate as branch members those persons likely to give the greatest help to tlie movement. Each local body, too, is to be invited to select the personnel of local auxiliaries. Those auxiliaries would locate crippled children in their district, report 011 their medical and educational needs and the financial circumstances of their parents.
The National Flower Show committee offered to hold a floral fete on the Ellerslie racecourse during the National Flower Show in February. Mrs. Zoe Bartley-Baxter offered to produce an entertainment during .the August school holidays. Both these offers were accepted. The offer of Dr. George de Clive Lowe to produce a pageant, "Runnymede," in September or October was received with thanks and refeiied to the finance committee for further consultation with Dr. de Clive Lowe.
Transport authorities are to be appealed to, to give consideration to tlio needs of crippled children requiring to travel for educational training or modi cal treatment.
Tie first meeting to elect; officers is to be held as soon as local bodies" liave forwarded the names of -members, in accordance with the contributions the local bodies have made.
