Mataki.—During the week ending the 14tli inst. the dredge worked for 133 hours 30 minutes for a return of 420z Odwt 12gr, pulling ahead 31ft, in ground the average depth of which was 17ft. The dredge had a good run for the week, which, with the exception of live shifts, was spent in the river. The ground" dipped considerably, going down to 21ft, quite a good part of this being worked ground. The middle section at the junction of the two cuts is very hard and stony, but is carrying a nice sample of gold. Most of the gold obtained last week was very light and did not weigh as well as expected. If weather conditions are suitable I intend to change the bottom tumbler; this will mean a stop of from eight to ten hours.
