MR. COATES' CANDIDATURE

MEETING OF SUPPORTERS,

DARGAVILLE, this day

A largelv attended meeting of supporters of Mr. J. G. Coates' candidature at the forthcoming election was held oti Thursday. Representatives from every settlement in the northern portion of the Kaipara electorate were present. Mr. V. Trounson presided, and with him was Dr. M. Greville. These two men acted as dual chairmen during the 1931 campaign. . A committee of twelve was appointed to draw up a plan of campaign. The meeting decided to send Mr. Coates a cable congratulating him on his achievements in connection with the meat agreement and loan conversion. It was unanimously decided to carry on under the National party.

WAIRARAPA SEAT. NATIONAL PARTY CANDIDATE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) MASTERTON, Friday. , A large meeting of delegates representing the Reform and United parties throughout the Wairarapa electorate was held in Carterton on Wednesday evening to select a candidate to support the National Government at the forthcoming election. Messrs. J. W. Card and H. F.° Toogood were the candidates, and after they had addressed the meeting a ballot was taken, resulting in the eelecton of Mr. Card.

MR. W. H. FIELD RETIRES OTAKI MEMBER'S DECISION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday.

Mr. W. H. Field, M.P. for Otaki, has stated that he intends to retire from politics. The announcement coincides with his 74th birthday.
