WINDOW SHUT BY WIND.

In the cold of last night's winter

evening a man was marooned for an hour on the narrow ledge of a city building, fivp storeys above the streetcanyon below. lie was Mr. Stanley Ash, a tenant in the A.M.P. Building in Queen Street. lie was finally rescued by a policeman.

He bad been working late at his office and about 8 p.m. thought he would clean the outside of his window. He climbed out on to the ledge, and bad not been there long when a gust of wind slammed the window shut and the patent catch slipped home. All the other offices on the floor were untenanted at the time, but he climbed carefully round the ledge until be came to an office where the fanlight was open. Mr. Ash spent a cold and anxious half-hour trying to loop tlio blind cord round the catch on the main window. "But," he added, "just as I thought everything was going to be all right, the cord snapped." He tried to attract the attention of pedestrians in the street below, but was unablo to make himself hcarcL It was not until he had whistled and shouted for about half an hour, until shortly after 9 o'clock, that he was heard and a crowd collected. A policeman was summoned. The latter made his way into Mr. Ash's room, which had not been locked, and the rest was simple. The small crowd saw Mr. Ash disappear and wondered what if. was all about.
