WORKMAN'S DEATH
COMPENSATION CLAIM. The action in the Arbitration Court yesterday in which Robert Porleous, administrator of the estate of William John Morrison Porteous, claimed compensation from Wnrnock v Brothers, Limited, soap manufacturers, of Auckland. was adjourned until this afternoon when further medical evidence was heard. Mr. Bone appeared for the plaintiff, who claimed on behalf of tlio widow and two children £828 10/8 compensation, £f>o funeral and medical expenses, and costs. Porteous was employed by the defendant company from 1915 until January 22 last, when lie collapsed and died after assisting to load drums of tallow on to a lorry. It was submitted that he strained his heart during this work, and that death resulted.
"The defence is that there is 110 evidence on which the Court could properly infer that the work upon which deceased was engaged at the time of his death contributed to his death," said Mr. A. 11. Johnstone, K.C., who appeared with Mr. LTren for the defendant company. "We say that deceased died of heart disease, or. more properly, of heart failure."
