MUSICAL EVENING
LYCEUM CLUB. The lounge of the Lyceum Club was gaily decorated with masses of early daffodils, anemones and irises, interspersed with fern and lycopbdium last evening when members of the music circle of the club assembled . for an evening of music. A varied programme of vocal and instrumental items arranged by Mr. Leo Whittaker was presented. The programme was opened by Dr. Trevor de Give Lowe, with two 'cello solos, "Dirge of the North" (Kreisler)) and "Slavonic Fantasy" (Dvorak). The soloist later rendered "Fairy Lullaby" and "Foggy Dent" (Arnold Trowell). Mrs. de Burg sang contralto solos "Toss a Brown Baby," "Croodlin' Doo" (Needham) and "Peace" (Schubert). Two songs, "Maid with Lips Like Roses Blooming" and "His Coming" (Franz), were delightfully rendered by Miss Julio Williams, who also sang a vocal duet with Miss Winifred Hill, entitled "Les Norweigiennes" (Delibes). A pianoforte solo, Rhapsodie No. 0 (Liszt), was played by Miss Molly Smith, and was followed by three songs, "Eleanore" (Coleridge Taylor), "Cradle Song" and "Up in the Saddle," contributed by Mr. Colin Wood. An operatic aria, "Ballatella" (Leoncavallo), was given by Miss Winifred Hill. The programme concluded with two tenor solos, "May Night" (Brahms) and "The Snowy Breasted Pearl" (Robinson), sung by Mr. David Lunny. Supper was served at the conclusion of an interesting evening.
