SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The rooms of the- Otahuhu Free ELindergarten looked very festive on Tuesday morning when a jubilee celebration party was held' there. Flowers in tonings of red, white and. blue wera arranged around the fables, and streamers lung gaily from the ceiling. The tiny pupils entertained their Visitors, among whom were the ladies of the executive committee, with some ' clever items. The Mothers' Committee served a dainty tea. The Mothers' Club committee were in charge of the stall at which very brisk trade was done. • • • ■' ' .f* An At Home was held 'on Tuesday afternoon by the committee of the St. Andrew's Ladies' Guild in the St. Andrew's Hall, Otahuhu. There was an excellent attendance. Mra. "Wills, of Auckland, gave an interesting lecture on Scottish cookery, and a competition was Avon by Mrs. Hughson. The Misses Wingate had beautifully decorated the stage'- for the' : occasion with ferns and bamboo.- -A dainty afternoon tea was seized by committee. A very successful concert was held in St. Andrew's Parish Han on Tuesday evening. Songs were given by Miss Jean Menzies and Mr. Robert Simmers, duets by Mrs. Winifred Osborne and Mr. Simmers, violin solos by Mr. Neville Walker, elocution items by Miss Joan Ross, and pianoforte solos by Mr. Allan Pow. Two one-act plays were also presented. The first, "When the Whirlwind Blows, was produced by Miss A. Manning, those takinc part being Mesdames Warren and Eattray and Miss F. Cole. The second, •'A Quiet Rubber," was produced by Mrs. Osborne. Those taking part were Mr. * B Marshall, Mrs. Osborne, Mr. N. Laud, and Miss E. Prosser. Mr. L. Stevens led the community singing _ and Mr. illan Pow acted as accompanist.
