MANUREWA.

A full meeting of the Manurewa Town Board was held last night, Mr. W. T. Cox presiding. - Drover's Complaint.—A letter was read from Mr. C. Drumm, asking for a permit to enable him to drive his cattle from his j paddocks adjoining and on the Great South Road, over those portions of the road at present barred to all drovers during the progress of works. His being purely a local case, the foreman of works, Mr. R. Forbes, was empowered to deal with,it. Telephone Service.—Dr. Campbell Jenkins attended the meeting and put, in a strong plea for action on the board's part to obtain a continuous telephone service. He mentioned several cases of accidents in which great loss of time in obtaining assistance had been caused. He also mentioned the need for a police constable stationed in Manurewa. It was decided I to send round a questionnaire to telephone subscribers, pointing out the additional charge curtailed upon a continuous service. Efforts to augment the number of subscribers will also be taken. The Police Department is again to be asked to appoint a constable for Manurewa. Extra Bus Services.—Messrs. Gray and Maxwell reported that double buses will be run during peak hours, thus obviating the overcrowding. It was also reported that the bus company intended to raise the workers' weekly fare from 5/ to 0/. District Nurse.—The board will support the local welfare league in its endeavours to obtain the services of a nurse for the district. Finance Committee.—The finance committee will hold a further meeting shortly and will then be Able to present a final report to the board. Mahia Road Workers.—The men on this job requested some form of shelter, and it was decided to obtain two tarpaulins t for that purpose.
