ONEHUNGA.

A meeting of the Onehunga Boiough Council last night was presided over by the Mayor, Mr. J. Park. Balance-sheet.—The town clerk submitted the balance-sheet, which had be<sn approved by the Auditor-General with one comment, that some sinking funds had not been brought up to date. The clerk reported that this had been done during the course of the loans conversion scheme iii December. Crown Rates.—The Crown has accepted the position that weekly, monthly and quarterly tenants of lands of the Crown in Onehunga are occupiers for the purpose of the Rating Act, and Crown Departments will pay a pro rata share of cash received from the tenants as from April 1, 1034. This applies only to properties actually owned by the Crown and dotja not cover properties of which the Crown is mortgagee in possession. Tenders. —The council accepted the tender of £403 received from Messrs. McCarten Bros, for the removal of t'etuse for one year. Only one other, tender, of £559, was received. Work Approved.—-The widening and formation of the road from Puhea Caen in the direction of the Mount RosK'll boundary has been approved by the Labour Department as a suitable work f6r the employment of No. 5 labour. Rifle Range.—The Lands and Survey Department's suggestion that the old rifle range should be changed to a reserve for municipal purposes was agreed to. Tue council will then be able to lease the area.

Municipal Buildings.—Plans for the oroposed alterations to the municipal buildings were approved, subject to the necessary financial arrangements being made. Waikaraka Cemetery.—The grass margin on the northern boundary at Waikafika Cemetery is to be laid out in grave plots. Cocoa for Children.—The council aiji-jetl to give £2 for euplying cocoa to the school children during the winter moiUUs. Cycle Traffic.—The Mayor and Messrs. A. A. Coates and, G. E. Haydon were appointed to represent the council at a conference to be held at Otahuhu on Ju!y 3 to discuss the control of cycle traffic. Unemployed Workers. — The Mayor informed a deputation from the Provincial Unemployed Workers' Association that the policy of the council was to assist the men to the utmost, and while h<S bad every respect for the leaders of the men elsewhere he preferred to deal with toe local representatives in any local matters. He also announced that he would shortly submit unemployment schemes for the benefit of the men, and advised patience until such time as the negotiations with the Minister had further developed. Permission was given to the relief workers to hold a public meeting in Jellicoe Park
