MUTUAL AID SOCIETY.

SMITH AND CAUGHEY, *LTD. A record attendance of members and friends was present at the twenty-fifth annual meeting of the Smith and Caughey, Limited. Mutual Aid Society, held in Hcote Hall, Symonds Street, on Wednesday evening. The president, Mr. S. L. Barry, outlined the work of the society since its inception. The first year ended with a membership of 258, as against a- total of 292 last year, said Mr. Barry. The number of cases considered totalled 74, as against 272 last year, the amounts distributed being respectively £143 0/6 and £532 18/3. Disbursements for the 25 years totalled £9865 4/3. Contributions and subsidy amounted to £279 6/ in 1910, and £488 3/ last year. Interest for the past year was £110 4/3, while in the first year it only amounted to £1 9/4. This was largely duo to the directors' action in allowing the original rate on moneys on deposit, also on the peace memorial fund, in addition to the £ for £ subsidy on contributions. Mr. R. Richmond proposed a vote ot thanks to the directors for their continued support and interest. Congratulations were extended to the recently-elected All Blacks, Messrs. T. H. C. Caughey and H, F. McLean, both members of the society. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—Patrons, Mrs. Caughey Preston, Messrs. J. Marsden Caughey, A. L. Caughey; trustees, Messrs. T. E. Gooding. R. Richmond. N. C. Tucker; president, Mr. S. L. Barry; vice-presi-dents, Miss I. Mansfield, Mr. C. M. Yates; lion, treasurer, Mr. D. Browning; lion, secretary. Mr. R. Ferguson; lion, auditor, Mr. C. W. Oram. Following the business of the evening, a concert entertainment was provided by members of the staff under the direction of Messrs. W. Alexander, J. B. Finkyeon and N. C. Tucker. Anions those present were: Mr. and Mrs. W,. R. G. Emerson, Mrs J. M. Caughey, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Caughey. Mr. and Mrs J. S. Caughey, Mi's H. P. Caughey, Dr. J. Caughey, Miss J. Caughey, Mr. T. H. C. Caughey, Miss I L. Burton. Mr. W. Astley.
