HIT BY MOTOR CYCLE.
MR. T. W. MURPHY INJURED.
FORMER CHAMPION BOXER
Knocked down by a motor cycle in Great North Roa-.1, Arch Hill, shortly after 5 o'clock last evening, Mr. Thomas William Murphy, the Billy Murphy of ring history, suffered concussion and an injury to tho pelvis, and wag taken by "the St. John Ambulance to the Auckland Hospital, where his condition is regarded as serious.
After a long and notable career in pugilism, Mr. Murphy, at the age of 74, is a tailor by occupation, and lives at 15, Codrington Street, Arch Hill. lie ij tho only native New Zealandor who ever held a world's professional boxing title. Starting in New Zealand he beat many heavier men than himself, both here and in Australia, before going to America, where, after many outstanding victories, he defeated Ike Weir for the world's professional feather-weight title in New York. He still retains the Fox Belt which went with the title.
