WHITE PINE RESOURCES. - BUTTER .MAKERS'. INTERESTS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. "The white pine resources in Westlaud are being conserved as much in the intereets of the North Island butter manufacturers aa those elsewhere," states Sir Alfied Ransom, \ Commissioner of State Forests, in a letter to dairy factories, relative to the question of conserving white pine eupplie3 for the dairying industry in the Auckland Province.
"Aβ regards the white pine resources of the Xorth Island," the letter continued, "these supply for local requirements over 20,000,000 ft b.m. per annum, but only 1,000,000 ft b.m. for export, ■which for all practical purposes ie equivalent to conservation to local use. "May I also add that the white pine resources in Westland are being conserved as much in the interests of the North Island butter manufacturers as those elsewhere. Although under present conditions the South Westland forests are rated as inaccessible, it is only a matter of time before practically the ■whole of the North Island white pine requirements will be drawn from these reserves. I can aseurc you that the question of white pine exports to Australia is under constant review by the. Government, which is fully eeized of the necessity for guarding against any dangerous increase in this trade and of ,S!em e n^'J UatC eUpplicß for local . / J
