JURY LISTS.
SPECIAL AND GRAND. INCREASE PROMISED. With the object of diminishing the chances of a special juror being called more than once during a jury year, the Auckland Chamber of Commerce appealed to the Minister of Justice to have the number of persons selected for special grand juries increased. The request lias been granted. At this morning's meeting of the council of the chamber a letter was received from the Minister saying that the number of persons selected as grand special jurors would be increased. The practical solution for a juror who had had more than bis fair share of jury service in any one year was to make application to the sheriff to be excused. If the applicant was able to establish hardship and applied promptly, he felt sure, that the application would receive favourable consideration from the presiding judge. It was not considered advisable, on account of practical difficulties, especially in the circuit Supreme Court towns,'for any amending legislation to be introduced.
"It is very gratifying to find that our request has been granted and that the number is to be increased," said the president, Mr. Gainor Jackson. "It should reduce the pressure on business men."
