TWO PILOTS WANTED
WILKINS-ELLSWORTH PLANS
TORONTO, May 1
In the course of an interview here yesterday, the famous Australian avia-tor-explorer, Sir Hubert Wilkins, stated that he is interviewing air pilots throughout Canada with a view to finding two to accompany him and Mr. Lincoln Ellsworth on what may be the first non-stop 2900-mile flight across the Antarctic.
He said he favoured Canadian pilots as the only ones, possibly with, the exception of Russians, who have had sufficient experience of similar climatic conditions. Only two pilots will travel with the expediton, which will leave the United States early in October.
Tho plans are practically the same as those for the first attempt in 1933, when the aeroplane was crushed in an ice fissure. From the Weddell Sea base the flight will be made across the South Pole to the extreme side of the continent, for the purpose of determining whether Antarctica is one continent.
