MANUKAU SUB-UNION.

NEW CLUB FORMED AT KARAKA. Rugby football advanced another step in the Mnnukau Sub-TTnron area Inst evening, when n new club was formed at Ivaraka. Twenty-live players were enrolled. A splendid offer was made by tbe president (Mr. A. ('. Lupton), on his being elected, to provide all the Jerseys for the club Ibis season. The union has now six clubs and eight teams against four club (earns last season. Executive officers appointed : —Secretary, Mr. Con Clarke: treasurer. Mr. .las Kidd; selector, Mr. Stan Wright : committee, Messrs. 11. I.indesay. 3. Peters, E. Kirkwood, It. Polntsei, J. Kidd, W. Milne, J. Knox.

JUNIOR BOYS' BOARD. The first meeting of the Junior Boys' Hoard, held last evening, was presided over by Mr. A. Bullions, a deputation from the Primary Schools' Union waited on the meeting in reference to the overlapping or plavers in the school and junior boys' com petitions, as affecting the Callxtus Memorial Shield matches. A happy solution was the restdr. The secretary reported an increase of live teams in the competition. Entries are: Senior grade. 6 (t): Intermediate, 1-' (10) : juniors, !> (S). The figures In parentheses refer to the 1034 season. The coinpetition opens mi May 11, the draw to take place on Tuesday next. EVERGREEN DISCUSSION.

RULES AND "THE SPIRIT." (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. Allegations that referees were ton technical, and interpreted the rules according to the letter rather than the spirit, were made at a combined meeting of the management committee of tlio Hamilton Rugby Union, referees, coaches and selectors last night, to discuss ways and means of improving Hamilton Rugby. Mr. A. C. Wntkins, on behalf of (lie referees, said they must know the rules thoroughly, and much of the trouble was due to ignorance of tbe rules by players, and frequent changes in the rules in recent yea r*. After a full discussion no action was taken.
