DRAMA IN AUCKLAND.
A YEAR OF PROGRESS. Both the Auckland area festival and the summer school of drama held in Auckland were educational and financial successes, according to the report of the Auckland area of the New Zealand branch of the British Drama League, presented at the third annual meeting on Tuesday. Mr. J. D. Swan presided, and the annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The latter showed that the Balance-sheet had been much reduced during the year.
The report stated that the team wlncn had played "Jael" in the local festival, and won the "Xew Zealand Herald 7 Challenge Cup, had also won the national final lestival at Timaru. During the year the number of affiliated societies rose to 30. !
The suggestion was made 'Mint the festival this year should be held early in September if practicable, in order that aw little time as possible should be lost between the local and the national festivals. A series of fortnightly lectures to the public should also be arranged.
