EMPLOYER FINED.
FALSE WAGES -BOOK ENTRY. COLLUSION ADMITTED. (By TelegrapTi.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. For making a false entry in a wages and time book, Rene Gerondis, proprietor of a Willis Street cafe, was fined £15 by Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Mr. Page said the entry was wilfully false, setting at nought the whole purpose of the statute. Inspector J. Georgeson, of the Labour Department, said defendant had entered in the wages book the name of a waitress receiving £1 10/ a- week, whereas the girl was actually receiving only IG/6. Mr. Stephenson, for defendant, said that under the provisions of the new award, the girl, who was employed as a probationer, would have lost her position, but she persuaded Mrs. Gerondis to keep her on at a smaller salary. Inspector Georgeson said collusion between workers and employers added to the difliculties of inspectors.
