SPEEDBOAT RACES.

THRILLS ON WAIKATO. ♦ (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this clay. Thrills galore were provided on the Waikato River at Hamilton/ this afternoon, when, the first speedboat carnival ever held in the Waikato was arranged by the Hamilton Regatta Committee and the Hamilton Rowing Club. Sixteen boats from many parts of the North Island competed over a quarter-mile course from the boatshed to the Railway Bridge, and some remarkable times were recorded. Particular interest centred on the attack by Miss Wanganui and Miss Ethel, wellknown Wanganui boats, on the Australian record of 68 miles per hour.
