"CALL TO MAN."

BISHOP FAVOURABLE.

Voluntary Sterilisation Problem. ADEQUATE SAFEGUARDS. (United P.A.-Electric Telegraph-Copyright) (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 22. Supporting the proposed legislation for voluntary sterilisation, the Bishop of Southwark, Dr. R. G. Parsons, writing in the diocesan gazette, said that provided voluntary consent was fully safeguarded and the patient or legal representative was allowed to seek the advice of an appropriate religious body, there was no reason for clerical opposition. Each case must be judged on its moral merits.

Civilised man was equipped with knowledge and power which his forefathers lacked. Hu faced the enlarged responsibility of determining the mental and physical characteristics of posterity. "We cannot evade the duty of deciding what use could lightly be made of our increasing knowledge, which might be regarded as a call to mankind from the Creator to co-operate more closelv in His beneficent purposes."
