LORD NUFFIELD.
FAREWELL MESSAGE
AUCKLANDERS' GIFT.
"WONDERFUL LEAD TO N.Z."
HOPES TO RETURN SOON".
Lord Nuffield, who leaves by the Mariposa for Fiji this afternoon, gave a farewell message to the people of New Zealand in which he said he hoped it would be only a short time before he came back to the Dominion again.
"It is seven years since I was in New Zealand," he said. "My stay has been so pleasurable and so enjoyable throughout that I hope it will be a far shorter time before I come back again. I shall maintain a constant and earnest endeavour to do everything to impress the people of England with the urgency and the importance of buying New Zealand products in preference to the goods of foreign countries of the same type. "There is no Dominion or country in the British Empire which does more than New Zealand by way of reciprocal trade with Great Britain. "An Inspiration." "I would like before I leave to make reference to Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Wilson's magnificent gift. I was extremely pleased that I had the opportunity this morning of meeting a very charming Auckland lady. I inspected the house and the grounds which have been offered to the cause of crippled children. For that cause, Mrs. Wilson and her husband have given a wonderful lead to the people of New Zealand, and I hope that their gift will act as an inspiration to the whole of the Dominion." 1 Lord Nuffield, who has been in New Zealand only four days, had to carry out a schedule which took up the whole of his time. He expressed regret that he had not been able to meet many of the people whom he would like to meet. He explained that since the announcement of his two gifts he had received hundreds of letters a day, and he expressed regret that he was unable to give all these letters his personal attention. Lord Nuffield sails for Fiji this afternoon by the Mariposa. He will stay there a short time, after which his movements are indefinite. Visit to "St. Leonard's." This morning Lord Nuffield, together with the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, Mr. C. J. • B. Norwood (chairman of directors, Dominion Motors, Ltd.), Dr. Bernard Myers, Mr. W. Hobbs (Lord Nuffield's private secretary), and Mr. G. Lloyd (Australasian representative of Morris Cars), paid a, visit of inspection to Mr. W. R. Wilson's home at Takapuna. All were more than impressed with the suitability of the site for the purpose, and with the generosity of .its gift.
Mr. Hutchison later discpssed with Lord Nuffield and Mr, Norwood arrangements for the launching of the Crippled Children's Fund, which will be opened by the Mayor on Monday.
Lord Nuffield discussed business matters with the executives of Dominion Motors this morning, after which ho lunched at his hotel. This afternoon hj was to have met the Minister of Finance, Mr. Coates.
