A. R. WILLS LEADS FOR KING'S T. BOWES, AUCKLANU, SECOND H. SBIMOXDS TIES FOR XIXTH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TREXTHAM, Tuesday. The championship series of matches, from which is determined the forty highest aggregate, scorers to fire in the final match for the King's Prize, was completed at the national rifle meeting at Trentham to-day. The leading positions in the King's Forty is occupied by A. R. Wills (InvercargUl) with 421 out of a possible 450. The next highest score was 41S, made by F. Bowes (Auckland City). With his three-point lead, a 47 for his final ten rounds at 900 yds would make Wills sure of the Champion Belt. Others from Auckland province in prominent places were Captain H. Simmonds (Auckland) and K. Grigsby (Morrinsville). who. with C. J. Xix (Featherston I and F. J. Soler (Wangaimi> tied for ninth position, scoring 411. Auckland City Prominent. The rifle club champion teams match, which is based on all scores in the belt matches except the final ten shots, was won by the Napier team, the members of which -were F. H. James, L. H. Proffitt, R. Nicholson and J. H. Kearney. Their aggregate scores totalled 1633. The team wins the Petone Rifle Club champion aggregate shield and each member of the team receives a miniature silver cup. The Auckland City team had the second highest score with 1629 and Petone No. 1 team finished third with 1613. The' Colonial Ammunition Company's cup for the highest team scores in all-range belt matches except the final ten shots was won by the Napier team with 709. Auckland City was second and Featherston third. The Auckland match was won by R. Congreve with 98, J. C. Feast (Greytown) was second "with 95. The winner of the Whitcombe and Caldwell match was C. B. Benton (Okato) with 48. The prize lists for these two matches had not been compiled when the telegraph office closed. Aggregates. Four marksmen had aggregates of 235 out -of a possible 250 to gain the leading places in the Australian aggregate, which is awarded for the highest scores in Canterbury, Wellington and Auckland matches. They were:—A. R. Wills (Invereargill), J. C. Carter (Petone), K. Grigsby' (Morrinsville) and P. H. James (Napier). The matches comprising the Australian aggregate involve one shoot at each of the short and .long ranges over which the competitors fire in the championship series. With his consistent shooting m the long-range belt matches R. Congreve (Old Navals) won the Bisley aggregate with 193 '. out of a possible 200. His loss of seven points for three matches, comprising the Bisley, was mavkemanship of the highest' order. The next highest scores were 189, registered by Wills and Ben ton. THE AUCKLANDERS. MANY MORE PRIZES WON. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") TRENTHAM, this day. In the Auckland match at Trerittiam resterday, won by R. Congreve (Wellington), with the great scpre ot 93 in the tricky conditions, Auckland province prize dinners were:-F. Bowes, 91, £1; taptn n H. Simmonde, 88, £1; I. J, Spry, Sβ, 10/. The completion of tlie Auckland match finalised the Australian aggregate, which ia made up of the Canterbury (10 shots at 600 yards), Wellington (10 shots at fiOO yards and GOO yards) and the Auckland contests. This was won by President A. R, Wills (Invereargill), with 235. Iv. Grigsby (Momnsville) was thud with •rVi £4- F Bowes (Auckland).(tenth, 232, £l; I. J. Spry (Auckland), 225, £1. - The last match before the 'final forty is fired the Witcombe and Cnldwell, 10 shots at 900 yards, followed. The Bisley aggregate, comprised of the three long range matches, possible score 200 points, was won by the young rifleman R. Congrevc, who piled up three 40's and a 46, total 193. The Colonial Ammunition Company s Cup, teams of four men over all long ranges, was won by the Xapier Rifle Club with 700 points. Auckland City and Featherston botli amassed totals of 708.

In the final forty to shoot for the King's Prize to-morrow, A. R. Wills heads the list with 421. F. Bowes (Auckland) hns been shooting brilliantly and is lying in second position, with an aggregate of 418. On form his prospects arc very blight, and it. would be no surprise to sec him overhaul his elder opponent, Wills, the well-known bandmaster of Invercarsnll. Simmonds (Auckland). K. Grigsby* (Morrinsville). with the same total. 411. W. Xorris (Wkangarei). 40.5. and I. J. Spry (Auckland), 404. will also take their place on the mounds at 5 p.m. to-morrow.
