FINE FISHING.

WHAT DOMINION OFFERS. AMERICANS ENTHUSIASTIC. (By Telegraph.—.Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day.

To many Americans New Zealand's greatest attraction is her unrivalled trout and big game fishing, and those of the Franconia's passengers who came overland from Auckland and had an opportunity of trying Lake Taupo are warm in their praises of the sport offering. The biggest rainbow trout caught by the party was an eight pounder.

One of the visiting anglers said that though in the States trolling was regarded as the lowest form of fishing he was glad to have had the experience of catching the finest trout in his life. " Back home," he said, " they would certainly open their eyes at seeing a rainbow of such size. Some of our lake fish—brown trout —run up to ten pounds, but they are not regarded as sporting fish."

The main trout streams in the States, he added, were fished to death, and needed a rest of several seasons. Another member of the party said fishing in New Zealand was a more comfortable process than in the States. Apart from the better sport offering, the water was not so cold, and the facilities were excellent. The party were greatly impressed by their visit to Waitomo Caves and the thermal regions.
