NEW POST OFFICE.
BUILDING AT THAMES. STRUCTURE TO COST £5000. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent > THAMES, this day. In reply to a request by the Thames Chamber of Commerce that further consideration should be given to the question of erecting a new post office at Thames, the acting-Postmaster-General, Mr. <T. Bitehener, has advised the chamber that Cabinet has now appro.ved of the work being undertaken. Plans and specifications will be pr> ceeded with at an early date, and tenders will be called. A sum cf £0000 has been on the Estimates for several years for this work. The pre cut post office building is in Queen Street. Many years ago it was occupied by the Lands and Survey Department, the post office at that tiiue being situated near the present site of the County Chambers, in Mary Street. "When the' former Department vacated the building the postal officials moved in, and the office lias "oe°.n situated there ever since. The new post office site is a central one in Pollen Street.
