HAMILTON WATER.
OFFENSIVE FLAVOUR. REMEDIAL MEASURES URGED. . (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. Uncomplimentary references to the Hamilton water supply were made by several councillors at a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last night, when remedial measures were advocated for the removal of the offensive flavour and smell in the water since the dry spell.
Mr. A. J. Denz said that some people had attributed sickness to the condition of the water, and pointed out that for an extra 1/ per year per ratepayer the alumina plant could be put into operation to improve the water.
The . Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow admitted that there was a flavour in the water, but said that with the daily consumption of over 1,000,000 gallons it was impossible for the chlorinating plant to remove all tlie flavour, which was chiefly noticeable when the water was warm. The water was subject daily to laboratory tests and was bacteriologically pure. The matter was left to the waterworks department for investigation.
