AN UNSTEADY MARKET. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The market tone on the Exchange this morning was rather dull, and, apart from the mining section, there were very few sales reported. Quotations generally were quiet, at approximately last week's closing level. Commercial Bank of Sydney dropped 5/r to £16 2/6, the market closing 2/6 on cither side of this figure. Other banking quotations were fairly steady, Reserves holding late rates frQm £6 10/ to £6 10/6. Breweries were quiet, New Zealands closing 6d on either side of £2 9/9, and Staples' and Tooth's having lower selling limit's. 1 The former were on offer at £1 -11/, and the latter at £2 6/11. Miscellaneous Australian issues failed to continue the improvement of the late calls last week, though quotations were firm. British Tobaccos and Broken Hill Proprietaries were on offer at £1 17/10 and £2 10/3 respectively. Claude Neon (Sydney) looked stronger with buyers at £2 5/, finding sellers wide at £2 13/. In the mining section, Worksop Extended made an advance of 3d, finishing with sellers at 3/, and buyers only %d behind. Rawang Tin were weak, the market showing buyers 7/4 and sellers Id above.
