RIFLE SHOOTING.
AUCKLAND CITY CLUB. The service championship of the Auckland City Defence Rifle Club was advanced a further stage on Saturday, with a series of practices based on the Trentham programme. Conditions were good, but with the exception of the two top men the shooting was well below standard. Spoons were won by H. Simmonds and J. A. Spry. The practices fired were as follow:—300 yards, seven application and ten rapid, followed by ten at the snapshooting disc; 200 yards, six at the moving figure and ten at falling plates. There will be a bullesye shoot at 500 yards and 600 yards on Saturday, under special conditions which will be announced on the range. AKARANA CLUB. The second shoot of the Akarana Rifle Club service series (championship) for a cup presented by Mr. R. Uaidlaw took place on Saturday. The conditions under which the competition was tired are seven shot application, ten rounds rapid, ten rounds snap, two sets of five plates and six shots at the running man. The Whakatane Rifle Club held a trophy shoot on Saturday, the conditions being seven shots each at 200 and 500 yards ranges. Scores: F.
