PONSONBY. The first meeting for the year of the Fonsonby branch of the Women's Christlan Temperance Union was held in St Johns Hall on Thursday afternoon. Ihe president, Miss Read* presided over a good attendance of members. There was a large gathering of members and friends at the first monthly meeting of the Remuera branch of the W.C.T.U., held at the residence of the president, Mrs. Hugh Kasper. Owing to the absence of Sister Grace through oillness, devotions were led by the "president. The ODportunity was taken to wish Mrs. Winstone bon voyage, and the president presented her with a beautiful bouquet. Mrs. Barker brought greetings from the Wanganui Union. The speaker for the afternoon was the Rev. Blight, who gave an address on temperance, stressing some very vital points. Mrs. N. Robertson rendered two very delightful solos. Miss Read gave an elocutionary item, and afternoon tea was served by the hostess and members of the committee.

OTAHUHU. The first meeting of the Otahuhu Women's Christian Temperance Union for this year was held in the Methodist Sunday School on Thursday afternoon. The president, Mrs. Eccersall, presided, and the meeting took the form of a social afternoon. Musical items were given by Mrs. Logan, Miss Edna Shepherd and Miss Poynton. Miss Shepherd acted as pianist. Mrs. Kasper was the speaker for the afternoon, and told of what Frances Willard had accomplished in her life for the cause of Temperance. At the close of the meeting Mrs. Kasper initiated one new member. Afternoon tea was served by members of the union, ceived. DEVONPORT. The Devonport Women's Christian Temperance Union reopened last week after their usual recess. The agenda for the year was drawn up and a great deal of business was put through. The Little White Ribboners were given their usual picnic on the beach on Saturday, about seventy children attending with their parents. Two little ones were made members of the L.W.R., Mrs. Williams, district superintendent L.W.R., taking the service. Mrs. Kasper, district president, addressed the mothers, and said how fortunate Devonport was in having such an able superintendent as Mrs. Wrack for the L.W.R. She also gave facts which showed how important it was that parents should have their children trained to know the evil effects of alcohol. Mrs. Williams replied on behalf of the | Devonport unicn. The following mem-/ bers of the district executive were present:—Mrs. Kasper,. district president; Miss Read, district vice-president; Mrs. Tasker Brown, Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Day.
