CROQUET.

AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Auckland Croquet Association's 3lat annual tournament was played in ideal weather conditions. Considering the lonj; spell of dry weather, the lawns , were, in splendid order, and although a. shado heavy, were true and easy running, so that the-jrnnies wore not unduly protracted. The play was of a very high order, the excellent long shooting bcinir a feature of the games, which were all keenly contested. In the championship singles Mrs. Tucker v. Mtes Skeet. the former played brilliantly, not missing a long shot. The most thrilling game was played between ; Mrs. Bartleet and Mrs. Hcalcy. The finals of the championship singles provided many thrills and were fought out by Mrs. Thomson and Miss Skeet. Both the contestants played well and steadily. Miss Skeet won the first game and Mrs. Thomson the second and third, which was very evenly contested ami excellent croquet played on both sides. Miss Skeet, having the lift, picked up a long shot and made her last hoop with blue. Mrs. Thomson hit in and, making the rover hoop, pegged out. thus ending a most exciting game in which both coio testants played well and at times brilliant croquet. Mrs. Thomson won this event for the third time, and with Mr«s. Bartlott, the champion doubles competition. , Tho final of the championship doubles was very interesting. Mesdames Bartlett and Thomson proved too strong for their opponents, Mesdames Schubert and Baker, who were not up to their usual form. Many other players are worthy of mention, but space forbids. And now for the juniors, the players of the future, who will give the handicappers a difficult task this year. Mrs. Quarrie and Mrs. Cole reached the finals in tho championship singles. The first game was won by Mrs. Quarrie, playing consistently, the second by Mrs. Cole, who played well and steadily. In the third game Mrs. Quarrie had an easy win, Mrs. Cole not being able to strike form. The finals of the handicap doubles were fought out by- Mesdames Henderson and Cairns and Harrop and Grey, all playing good croquet and keenly contesting the .match, which was won. by the former pair in two straight out games.
