BIRTH RATE RISE.

Slight Increase in England And Wales. FIRST FOR SEVERAL YEARS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, January 25. A slight increase in the birth rate for England and Wales, the first to occur for 1 several years, is shown in the returns for 1934. These show <nat the births per 1000 of the population were 14.8, deaths 11.8 and infant mortality 0!). The birth rate was an increase of 0.4 above the 1933 figures, which constituted a low record. The death rate was 0.5 below that for 1933, and only 0.4 above that for 1930, which was the lowest recorded. The infant mortality rate was five per 1000 below that for 1933, and also the lowest recorded. The previous lowest was that for 1930, namely, 00.
