MISSION BAY RESCUE.
CANOEISTS CAPSIZED.
LIFE-SAVERS' SMART WORK.
While demonstrating the latest methods of life-saving to a large crowd at Mission Bav yesterday afternoon, members of the Milford Surf Life-saving Club were called to a real rescue when a canoe capsized some distance from the shore. • ' **
Members of the Milford Club had fceen invited by the Waitemata Surf Club to visit Mission Bay and carry out combined life-saving demonstrations and to take part in friendly contests. A lecturer explained the various methods of life-saving and resuscitation as members carried them out, and both during the morning and afternoon large crowds collected.
Shortly after one of the demonstrations had concluded, about 3.45 p.m., a light canoe capsized in the choppy sea iibout 100 yards from the shore, throwing its three occupants into the water. Two of them, a man and a boy, were unable to swim. Three members of the Milford Club, Messrs. E. Whiteon, F. -Marriage and R. Double, were sitting <>n the beach opposite the point where I lie accident occurred. As the distance was not great, they did not wait for a reel to be brought, but swam out at once. They had no trouble in bringing their patients back to the beach little the worse for their experience. The third canoeist managed to get back without assistance.
