PERMANENT HEAD.
CABINET TO CONSIDER.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. "Nothing will be done until Cabinet considers the matter." said the Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes, when asked if a decision had been made as to who should fill the position of permanent head of the Prime Minister's Department. "The appointment is a Cabinet matter," Mr. Forbes said, "and is not in the hands of the Public Service Commissioner. The Executive Council would make the appointment, and consequently it will not be made until the Governor-General is present, as he is the chairman of the Council." A Press Association message from Wellington, published on Saturday, that it was now certain Mr. C. A. Berendsen, Secretary for Imperial and External Affairs, will be appointed permanent head of the Prime Minister's Department, a position which was first held for many years by the late Mr. F. j D. Thomson.
