ARCHBISHOP O'SHEA.
APPEARS Ay METROPOLITAN.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WESTPORT, Sunday. Archbishop O'Shea made his first official appearance in public as Metropolitan of the Roman Catholic Church in New Zealand this afternoon, when he opened and blessed a new church school in Westport in the presence of a large assembly.
The parish priest. Father Phelan, said the fchool was the second Catholic school to be opened in Westport. The new building cost £2500, and was being opened almost free of debt.
Mention was made by one of the speakers that Father Phelan had himself contributed £1000 toward the erection of the school. Other speakers were the Mayor of Westport, Mr. J. Kilkenny, Mr. P. C. Webb. M.P., the Hon W. H. Mclntyre, M.L.C., Mr. J. Radford and Father Seymour. The architect of the new building was Mr. J. McCoster, of Auckland.
