SULTRY WEATHER.
CONDITIONS IN CITY.
LITTLE RAIN LAST NIGHT.
NIGHT BATHING POPULAR
Although a few showers fell during the night, the weather in the city remains hot and sultry. Yeeterday morning the threatening appearance of the sky suggested that there would be an abundance of rain within a few hours, but after a shower the clouds cleared away, and left the conditions as uncomfortable as ever. By four o'clock in the afternoon a temperature in the shade of 84 degrees had been reached. Last evening the eky clouded over, and hopes for a good rain were lifted again. But after another two or three shovvcm the stare appeared, and for the rest of the night the gardens remained as parched as ever. The warmth of th<! night encouraged a lot of swimming on North Shore beaches; and a high tide at 10 o'clock was an additional attraction. During the lunch-hours both yesterday and today the cool spots in the central parks were favoured, and the wharves had their usual quota of strollere. To-day turned out rimch as yesterday afternoon. After eight o'clock there were only light white clouds in the sky, and conditions remained humid, although relieved somewhat by a fresher breeze than was the case yesterday.
