YOUNG WOMAN STRUCK.
ASSAILANT ESCAPES. On her way home up Mountain Road near the Auckland Grammar School late on Thursday night, Miss Rona Willaey, aged IS. employed at the home of Professor A. P. W. Thomas, was struck on the face by an unknown man and knocked down. Miss Willaey screamed, and her asstiilant ran away. He has not yet been found by detectives who are handling the inquiry. After a visit to the city, Miss Willaey was on her way up Mountain Road about eleven o'clock. She was near the caretaker's house of the Grammar School when a man approached her and asked her the time. Then ho struck her, once on tho face and once on the body, knocking her down. Tho man raced away and Miss Willaey went into a nearby house for protection. Shn was not badly hurt, a slight wound inside her mouth being her most serious injury.
