HOSPITAL FUND.
SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL SELF-SUPPORTING INSTITUTION. (By Telegraph. —Own Correspondent.) WHITIANGA, this day. In August last 21 nominations were received for the princess carnival in aid of the Mercury Bay Hospital. Miss Eileen Brunton, representing the, farmers, and Miss Una White trades, with strong committees assisting, were selected as candidates. Dances, card evenings, kapa Maori rallies and socials were held, terminating last night in a dance in the Public Hall. Over 300 visitors and local residents were present an<l took part in t lit* voting, which was finished a: ll;30 p.m. The results were announced by Mr. X. A. Welle, chairman of the Coromandel County Council, and trustee of the Mercury' Hay Hospital Hoard, amid prolonged cheering. He stated that it was the only hospital in the Dominion that was self-supporting, and had been so for the past 30 years. Mr. T. D. Wordeu. who sponsored Miss Brunton (20,01.1 voles), and Mr. Henry Simpson, who sponsored MiSβ White (20.150 votes) were presented by Mrs. Hinds with a solid silver eet of salad I servers and a silver va*e respectively. The sponsors were complimented on tho manner in which they had assisted the candidatures, and the committee was Ihnnked for its servicee. Prolonged cheering greeted the winner, who was wearing pale pink silk lace. j relieved with a pale spray. The second candidate wore black velvet, sequintrimmed at the neck. Over £200 was I raised.
