TRAVEL CLUB.

POSSIBILITIES IN TRAVELLING. The Friday morning tea given by the ladies' committee of the Auckland Travel Club was well attended to hear Mr. Willis Airey, lecturer in history at the Auckland University College, give an address on " The, Possibilities and Dangers of Travel." The main value in travelling, he eaid, was the opportunity oli'ered for extending our knowledge of other peoples and creating friendly relationships abroad. To offset this very great advantage, Mr. Airey cited the danger of taking our prejudices with us, and also creating an artificial standard of living by becoming accustomed to the more luxurious life offered by the modern ship« and hotels. Exploiting tlie tourist and pandering to their whims was also mentioned as a danger to be avoided by a country interested in catering for the tourist traffic. Mr. Airey mentioned the development of the youth movement, the establishment of tramping clubs and. hotels all over the world as a method of cheap and friendly travelling.

Mre. Victor Macky thanked the speaker for his address, and explained that the Travel Club was organised to create a, friendly "relationship between the visitors from other countries and the New Zealandcrs themselves. Mre. Howott, wife of Flying-Captain Ilewett, who took part in the Centenary air race, was a. guest of honour and was presented with <i bouquet of sweet peas and roses on behalf of the club. Overseas, and out-of-town guests included Mrs. Ramsey-Uae. England; Mrs. Middlemiss, Borneo; Miss Lola Myers, London; Miss Da vey, California ; Miss Kagg, Suva; Miss Winchcombo, Wellington.. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs. Spencer in the loss of her husband, the late Mr. Albert Spencer, a member of the executive committee of the Auckland Travel Club.
