FIRST ANNUAL MEETING.
ELECTION- OF OFFICERS.
The valuable work done by the president, the Rev. A. B. Chappell, in the establishment of the Auckland Historical Society was the subject of reference by members at the first annual meeting held last night in the City Library. Appreciative mention was also made of the service to research given by the City Council's library committee, the city librarian and his staff.
The report referred to the activities of the society since its formation four months ago. These included a number of lectures. Affiliation with the projected New Zealand Historical Society and the publication of lectures and papers were proposed.
During the discussion reference was made to the forthcoming centenary of the Russell Church and to preparations for the celebration of a hundred years'of British rule in the Dominion.
The election of officers resulted: President, Rev. A. B. Chappell; vice-presidents, Messrs. George Graham, Alan Mulgan, and D. M. llae; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. P, King; additional members of council, Miss Ellen Melville, Rev. P. MeKeefry, Messrs. W. T. G. Airey and L. Phillips; auditor, Mr. T. S. Bassett. Two special committees were eet up, one to arrange and conduct field days, and the other to inquire into available sources of historical material. Messrs. L. Phillips and J. Barr were nominated as conveners respectively of these committees.
