END OF SEASOjT DANCE. The annual fancy dress bail given by the Athenian Club at tho Maiichcs f cr Unity Hall last evening was a fitting wind-up to a series of most enjoyable fortnightly functions held during cue winter season. The originality of some of the costumes worn struck a note of unusual ingenuity, the grand march showing all the striking costumes to great advantage.
The guests were received by the pr\~i dent, Sir. C. Munro Emanuel, and Mrs. Emanuel, the latter representing the Duchess of Dantzie, in a beautiful gown of loaf green panne velvet. The ladies' committee present were: Mrs. A. Guy, as a Russian dancer; Mrs. Wilfred Wright, a banai • tree; Miss Xora Kirkbv, period frock; Miss Hazel Rainey, a Burmese lady. The judges were Miss Sutherland, Miss Cecil Hall, and Mr. F. McCallum, who awarded the prizes as follows: Best character, lady, Mrs. W. Paterson, a Maori, I, Miss C. Scale, Little. Women, 2; Best character, gentleman, Sir. Wilfred Wright as John Silver 1, Dr. Gunn, as Don Juan, 2; best couple, Miss H. Rainey and Mr. J. Smith, as Burmese dancers I, Miss T. Davies and Mr. Tracy Inglis, as Bitter Sweet 2; most humorous couple, "ill - , and Mrs. Sleepless Xight," represented by Mr. and Sirs. A. Roberts; 1. Punch and Judy, Sirs .J. Jackson and Mr. P.
