WILL BE SUPPORTED. i , Wrackless, who figures among the acceptors for the Wuitcmuta Handicap at • Auckland on Saturday, is trained at Nelson . by L. F. Bei'kctt. She lias not raced since , last May, when she competed unsuccessfully in pacers' races. Wrackless is a double-gaited lnare, but her two successes last season were gained in trotting events at the Hawera meeting, although she was second to Iron Man with the liopplcs on at Wanganui in April. She is a very solid trotter, and the daughter of Wrack and Noiseless should gain a share of the prize money next Week-end. REDEEMED HIMSELF. ■ Gamble, by his meritorious win at the , South Canterbury meeting on Saturday, i has restored himself to popular favour, ; and his Derby prospects have improved ; considerably. The track was not in a coni dition for fast times, but in his winning - effort Gamble showed himself full of game- ■ ness and stamina. A long way from home : M. B. Edwards was shaking his whip at ' the colt, who was under a hard drive over the last two furlongs. He got down to. his i work like a genuine racehorse aild fairly • outstayed his field. Gamble was •on his • best behaviour at the start, and when the [ signal was given he moved off promptly. i FIRST FLIGHT'S PROSPECTS. First Flight has not raced since she coni--1 peted at the Auckland meeting in August, • but the black mare is reported in good order ut Cambridge. At her last start 1 First Flight was confidently supported to ; win the August Handicap at the Auckland August meeting, but the best she could do • was to finish third. On that occasion she did not have the best of the luck in the ' running and was a little unlucky. She is 1 engaged in the Jellicoe Handicap on Saturday, and, -requiring one win to enable her ; to compete in the Auckland Trotting Cup, Mr. W. Johnstone's mare is sure to be in the firing line for a long way. A PROMISING PACER. Owing to unsoundness King's Warrior is a very difficult liorse to train and he has not raced since winning the Waipu Handicap at the Northland Trotting Club's meeting, held at Alexandra Park last April. On that occasion he beat a field • of well-performed pacers very easily and high hopes were held out for the future. Ho then developed unsoundness and just when he was coining to his best again about three weeks ago he sustained an injury to his hock and had to be eased in his work. He is again in training under J. G. Robertson at Maiigere and working along in great style. He is engaged in the Stewards' Handicap at Epsom on Saturday, and would only have to be ill form to take considerable beating. BEGINNING BADLY. The three-year-old pacer Donalda was backed as if he was invincible in the Hadlow Trot Handicap at Timaru on Saturday, but he foiled to begin smoothly and took no part in the race. He stood up to the barrier and was as quiet as an ofd sheep, but • when the barriers were reelased he Beemed to get bustled and failed to strike his gait until the field had run past him. His prospect of winning was prejudiced by the heavy track, and also by a misfortune which _ occurred while he was doing his preliminary. He threw a front shoe and liad to return to the birdcage and have the other front shoe taken off. The fact of his trying to pace in heavy ground with no front shoes on did not help him. Notwithstanding, it is a fact that Donalda lias not left the mark properly in any of his three starts, and he will have to learn to begin if he is going to take a serious part in the New Zealand Derby Stakes next month.
