RAILWAY FREIGHT.
iXVTSTOCK RATES INCREASE. i (Ey Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Jt was announced at a meeting of the Farmers' Union executive to-day that the Railways Board had declined a 'equest for a reduction in freight rates on livestock. Rates were stated to be 60 per cent above the pre-war scale, but the board pointed out that operating costs had increased by approximately 60 per cent, and, moreover, prices for certain classes of livestock were appreciably higher than in pre-war times.
