CROQUET OPENING.

ROCKY NOOK. The oflicial opening of the Rocky Nook Croquet Club was held 011 Saturday, the weather being ideal. Mrs. E. li. Turner, president, extended a hearty welcome to tile large number of visitors and members present. Mrs. Badeley, president of the Auckland Croquet Association, addressed the players, and calling upon Mrs. Turner to play the first ball, declared the lawns open for the season. Progressive croquet was played, the winners being: A, Mrs. Clarke; hidden number, Mrs. Robertson; B, Mrs. Peckham; hidden number, Mrs. Taylor. Afternoon tea was served in the bowlprs' pavilion.

Among those present were: Mesdames Badeley, 'Keesing, Finch, Hamilton, Clarke, Robertson, Turner, J. Kayes, Iveatley, Matthews, Barton, Hodgson, Urquliart, Garland, lint'edge, Wilson, Wakerley, Butler, Hyde, ;T. DEVONPORT OPENING. A large number of members and visitors attended the opening of the Devonport Croquet Club yesterday afternoon. Mrs. J. Newell, the president, introduced the Mayor of Devonport, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, who opened the lawns, and wished the members a successful season. Mrs. J. C. Badeley, president of the Auckland Association, addressed the gatherins; and played the first ball. Mrs. A. H. Keesing, secretary of the Auckland Association, and Mrs. L. Cusworth, a member of the executive, were present. Sister clubs represented comprised Stanley Bay, Takapuna, Auckland, North Shore, Onehunga, Mount Hobson, Mount Eden and liemnera. The winners of the progressive tournament were Mrs. Palairet (A grade highest number), Mrs. H. Lacy (A grade lowest number), Mis. Campbell (B grade highest number), Mrs. W. C. Beaumont (B grade lowest number). The tea tables were beautifully arranged, and all shades of Iceland poppies comprised the floral decorations. Among those present were: Mesdames H. F. W. Meikle, Mayoress of Devonport, Swan, McAra, Palairet, Campbell. Rodgers, Seaton, Brookes, W. Gates, H. Lacy, S. Wrigley, J. 11. Spicer, W. Robertson, H. Bruce, MeDermott, A. Robinson, Ilewson, S. Vaile, MeDougall, N. C. Beaumont, Craigmile, Ford, A. T. Griffiths, C. and F. Prime, Naglc, F. Amodeo, Allen, H. Corbett, W. McCullen, Laydford, D. Harvey; Misses N. L. Bennett, Mair, Spicer, Powell, Washer, Stewart and McFarlane.

MOUNT EDEN. The . opening of the Mount Eden I croquet lawns took place on Wednesdaj', when a large number of members and visitors were welcomed by the president, Mrs.* W. G. Allen, who wore a smart ensemble of navy and white, with hat to tone. The lawns were in excellent order, and were declared open by the Mayoress, J Irs. McNab, who played the first ball. Mrs. Badeldy, president of the Auckland Croquet Association, complimented the club on its progress and wished the members a very pleasant season. Progressive croquet was played, the prize winners being:—First session: A, Mrs. Woods; consolation, Mrs. Darrach; B, Mrs. Pearce; consolation, Miss Wilkie. Second session: A, Mrs. Bra-1 bant; consolation, Mrs. Rees; B,- Mrs. Wilkin; consolation, Mrs. Piatt. After-' noon tea was served by the committee, the tables being decorated in the club's colours, light and dark blue, with bowls of beautiful spring flowers.
