OPENING TO-MORROW.
"QUIET MORNING" TO-DAY.
11l preparation for the opening to-mor-row of the third session cf the twentyseventh synod of the diocese of Auckland, a quiet morning for clergy, laity and cliurcli workers was conducted by Archdeacon J. R. Young, vicar of Christ's Church, Wangamii, in St. Mary's Cathedral this morning. He will also preach at a special ynod service in the cathedral at 7.45 this evening. After a celebration of Holy Communion synod will opan officially at 10.30 a.m., but will adjourn until the afternoon for the transaction of business. For the remainder of its sitting business will be conducted in the aiternoons and evenings. A conference of lay members will be held on Friday morning, a meeting of the St. John's College Association on Saturday morning, and a conference of clergy on Monday morning. Next Sunday will be observed as "Synod Sunday" in city and suburban churches, at most of which the sermons will be preached by visiting clergy. Holy Comnjunion at the cathedral will be celebrated by Archbishop Avc.rill, and the preacher at the morning service will be the Rev. B. P. Williams, v.'car of Kaitaia. At a service for Bible class members in the afternoon, at which Archdeacon H. A. Hawkins will be the preacher, memorial windows to the late Archdeacon P. Walsh, Archdeacon of Waimate from 1900 to 1012, and the lflte Rev. 11. W. Papaliia, formerly assistant superintendent of the Maori Mission, will be unveiled and dedicated. At evensong the preacher will be the Rev. L. E. Cartridge, vicar of Tuakau.
