OPENED BY THE GOVERNOR,
(From Our Own Correspondent > SUVA, September 20. Another milestone in the educational progress of Fiji was erected last Saturday when hte Excellency the Governor, in the presence of a large gathering, opened the Ballantine Memorial School, built by the Methodist Mission in memory of Miss Mary Ballantine, a great friend of the mission. The buildings cost over £7000, and of this girls of Australia contributed £1300 and the Fiji Government £3000, and the balance was found by the native Fijian Methodists, who number some 00,000. The school has accommodation for 100 boarders, and more than that number of applications have already been received. It is situated upon what is known as Mission Hill about two miles from Suva, and has over 13 acres of land for gardening purposes. The scholars have the growing of foodstuffs as part of their curriculum.
