ROAD FATALITY.
MERCER MAN KILLED.
TRAVELLING IN SIDE-CAR
CYCLE AND LORRY COLLIDE.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MERCER, this day. Mr. Henry Lowther. aged 48, a married man .with five children, residing at Mcreer, was killed instantly about 0.30 this morning, 2S miles north of Rangiriri, when the motor cycle and sidecar in which he was a passenger collided heavily with a large lorry owned by the Auckland-New Plymouth Daily Transport Company, and driven by Mr. Xoel Adamson. At the time of the accident the motor cycle, which was driven by Mr. Balfour Tetzlaff, was travelling south. Mr. Lowther was proceeding to work at Rangiriri, he beiirr in the employ of the Roore Shipping Company as master of the river steamer. Mr. Tetzlaff was cut and bruised, and after receiving attention from Dr. Barrett Patterson, of Huntly, was taken to the Waikato Hospital. The body of Mr. Lowther was taken to Mercer. The motor cycle was not badly damaged, but the side-car was wrecked. An inquest was opened to-day before the district coroner, Mr. C. K. Lawrie and after evidence of identification had been taken was adjourned sine die.
