ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY.

CONCERT AND SOCIAL.

Tho Auckland St. Andrew's Society held its monthly concert ancl social in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Saturday evening. There was a large gathering of members, guests, and friends.

The president. John W. Bissett, J.P., attended by the guest of the evening, past president councillor John Barr Paterson, J.P., and vice-presidents A. J. Muirhead and David McLaren, was piped into the hall and to the dais by Pipe Major D. Ferguson. After the -National Anthem, a welcome was extended by the president to the guests, and a resolution of welcome to Auckland to the Rev. R. Ferguson Fish, a native of Jedburgh, Scotland, was unanimously acclaimed.

As the St. Andrew's Society is honouring its past presidents this year as its guests of Jionour, the president thereafter eulogised the services to the society of past president councillor John Barr Paterson. J.P., and invested him with the regalia and insignia of office and installed him in the chair to preside over the gathering for the evening.

The concert was opened by the Rev. A, E. Orr singing "Scots Wha Hae" and tho "Border Ballad." Vocal, instrumental and elocutionary items were given by the following artists: Sirs. Rattray and Mr. W. Geinmell, duets; Miss Lillian Braithwaite, Miss Mabel Jackson, Miss Doris Webb, quartets; Miss Gcddy, elocutionary items; Mr. Roland Jackson, xylophone items; Mrs. McLennan, two Scottish songs; Uncle Tom's protege little lan, song and two recitations; Mr. Hal McLennan, (lute items; Mr. Cameron, two Scottish songs. A dramatic sketch, "Domestic Improvement Society," by two of the St. Andrew's Players, Miss Tullock and Mr. Steer, received "a great ovation. Supper was then provided by the ladies of the St. AndreW's Auxiliary, Mesdames W. Black, D. McLaren, J. Lornie, J. Barbour, J. McKane, P. C. Wright, J. W. Bissett, A. J. Muirhead. A dance programme of Scottish reels and dances then followed, Mr. Pirrie and Mr. J. Barbour officiating with Mr. Paterson as masters of ceremonies.
