BIRKENHEAD ORPHANS.

ANNUAL LADIES' NIGHT.

The annual "ladies' niglit" of the Birkenhead and Northcote Orphans' Club, held in the Buffalo Hall at Birkenhead, on Saturday evening', was largely attended. The president, Mr. R. R. Hayman, presided, and gave an interesting description of a trip through Iceland, and of the habits and customs of the people. The programme comprised selections by the club's orchestra, under Mr. Charles Howard; pianoforte duet by Mrs. Franchi and Jliss Dorothy Franchi; soprano solos by Miss Meryl Harvey; songs by Messrs. Ijcu Barnes, Stan Kvans, Charles Hunter, H. Valentine, and A. Franchi; whistling solos by Mr. Rushon; humorous sketches by Mr. Holtliousc; duets by Messrs. Cecil Johnston and Stewart Harvey; quartets by the Balmoral Quartet. The accompaniments were played by Messrs. R. Salt and. C. Howard. Among those present were: Mesdames R. R. Havinan, R. G. Holland, K. H. Holdgate, W. B. Harlow, J. W. Hollows, O. Tarbutt, C. Howard, IT. Kemp, C. Sampson, H. Dowsing, A. White, 11. Hoyland, A. McNeilage, R. O. White, J. Hingston, 15. Wallis, J. H. Vivian C. A. Peace, W. U. Lilburn, R. O'Callahan, A. E. Wilkins, M. Lawson. 0. J. Iloneycombe, Misses M. H. J. Mulholland, J. MePhcrson, F. Wallis, D. Prentice, E. Lilburn, I). Knox, A. Fagan, Mackay, Hart, M. Berry, Bartrum, M. Ilealey. BRIDGE CLUB EVENING. A most enjoyable bridge and 500 evening was held by the Albert Bridge Club, at the home of the president, Mrs. C. Maetlardy, S.~>, Mount Albert Road. The proceeds were in aid of the Mount Albert Welfare League, and a substantial sum was handed over at the end j of the evening to the secretary of the league, Mr. N. Stringer. Prize winners were: Bridge, Mrs. Walhvork and Mr. Marshall; hidden numbers, Mrs. Benjamin and Mrs. Leach; 000, Mrs. O Han'lon and Mr. Carr; hidden number, Mrs. J. Allen; competitions, Joan Marshall (cake), B. Eaddy (sweets). The rooms were gaily decorated with spring foliage and llowers.
