POWER FOR NORTH.
REVIVED INTEREST. EXTENDING RETICULATION. BAY OF ISLANDS' WISH. "The proposals for extending electricity to North Auckland, to which publicity has been given during the past four weeks in the 'Star,' have found a keen response throughout the North Auckland peninsula," said Mr. C. L. Bagnall, of Dargavillc, this morning. "Everywhere residents are asking 'when may we expect electric power.' One Dargaville firm lias deferred an expenditure it proposed making upon a plant with which to generate electricity for the lighting of its premises. The Kawakawa Town Board, at its last meeting, instructed the town clerk to write to the Waitemata Electric Power Board asking for details of its proposals for electrically reticulating North Auckland. The Ivaikohe Chamber of Commerce lnia asked me why the Bay of Islands County, in which i 9 included the Kawakawa anil Ivaikohe Town Boards, is not included in the major North Auckland power scheme as outlined in the 'Star' on August 15. "The Kaikolie Chamber of Commerce has been advised that it should, in conjunction with the local bodies in the Bay County, be actively concerning itself with the matter of linking up with the North Auckland Electric Power Board by the circulation of a petition, which, according to law, must be signed by a certain proportion of its ratepayers, asking for the inclusion of their territory in that of the North Auckland Electric Power Board. "It is rather interesting to note that at Waiotira Junction, where the poles for the telephone system are being renewed, provision is being made so that the power lines can bo carried on the top of the same poles. There is some expectation at Waiotira that electric power will be available within two years."
