BANK SHARES FIRMING. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH tins day. Quieter conditions ruled on 'Change this morning, although there was considerable activity in mining scrip and an appreciation in several investment issues. The most noticeable advance wae in National Bank of Australasia, which, with a sale at £6 5/, made 3/ on the previous price. Other banks showed a firm tone, with New South Wales quoted ex dividend and holding sellers' limits at £32 5/. Buyers offered £31 2/6. Commercials of Sydney and Unions also were at stronger levels.

In the insurance section there were transactions in New Zealands and South British, both at better figures. After sales of the former at £3 3/ holders withdrew from the market, leaving buyers at £3 2/3. South British closed round the £4 4/ mark.

The wool section improved steadily, Dalgety's being on offer at £9 10/ and Goldsbrough, Morts at £1 12/. Buyers for both lines were at £8 19/ and £1 11/ respectively. Australian securities were in keen demand without much business being done. Broken Hill failed to hold their recent level. After sales at £2 8/9 more were on offer at the same figure. Electrolytic Zinc (ord.) made 4d. Both Amalgamated Wireless (contributing) and Australian Glass looked better, with buyers advancing in each case. Sellers for the latter stayed in at £2 14/. In mining shares, Brian Born, Alexander and King Solomon showed the biggest improvement, the last named selling cum dividend at 4/3. Grand Junction advanced another Id, as did Mount Lyells. Quotations for Mossy Creek and Glenroy were firm.
